About Jude Taylor

Having lived in the Swan Valley since 1978, Jude began her art career after her four children started school. Inspired by the works of Margaret Preston and helped by local artists Ron Gomboc, Phillip Cook and Garry Zeck, Jude grew in confidence and developed her own style. Capturing the strong light and colour of the Western Australian landscape and the hard edge and sculptural shapes of the abundant wildflowers.

She is now able to look back on a body of work that captures the span of her life in West Australia.

Family, Swan Valley, outback travels and our wonderful wildflowers.

Her striking hand-coloured lino cuts are represented in public and private collections throughout Australia.

To capture the abundance and joy of our wildflowers, Jude created a collection of repeat patterns and branched out into textile production, creating a line of homewares and clothing. Her fabric was used in the 2013 refurbishing of the W.A. Premier’s office. Unfortunately, COVID put an end to fabric making.

In Jude’s own words:

"As a young girl growing up in Western Australia, I remember the trips to the hills around Perth to see the wildflowers. Beautiful jewels of colour that displayed their beauty from harsh prickly and misshapen bushes, the smell, lusciousness and all the abundance were a joy to me then and still is today.  The wonder is that they (flowers and women) are still able to produce their feminine qualities. Flowers have beauty; they shelter and produce nectar, which is the sustenance of life. Linocuts are the perfect medium to capture the hard edge required to survive and flourish in a harsh environment. My work is a tribute to these flower of the Australian bush, and to women everywhere."
